Leather from Borge Garveri AS remains highly sought after because of its unique blend of technical innovation and natural beauty.
From being an old handcraft, the tanning of leather has developed into a modern process industry with well-documented quality control systems. However good they are, machines can never completely replace skilled operators and their training remains vitally important. At all stages of production, the hides are handled by people who continually check the leather against both internal and external standards.
We number amongst our customers some of the most exclusive and demanding producers of shoes and leather products. To meet their exacting requirements in the ever-changing world of fashion we continually innovate and develop new products. These developments include different weights, colours and textures, as well as new technologies innovations.
New developments and work on continuous improvement has always been a natural part of a working day at Borge Garveri AS. The last few years has seen this structured through a systematic approach to manufacturing and management first initiated by Toyota. Locally we call it “Lean Manufacturing”. In small groups, our team members contribute with their specialist knowledge and continually improve the work done in their own areas. In this way they are in control of the value added to the product. The result manifests itself in improved job satisfaction, productivity, quality, and reduced absenteeism.
Principles for Lean Manufacturing
“ Lean” is an attitude to enable perfect production through continuous improvement of the process and an elimination of everything
that does not add value to the product. The quest is for 100% quality.
